Desert Mountain Academy (DMA) is a charter high school serving grades 9–12 in Queen Creek, Arizona, opening in 2027. Built on the proven model of our sister school, Southwest Leadership Academy, DMA is guided by the same dedicated governing board and designed to support students who have not found success in traditional school settings and are ready for a fresh start.
DMA supports youth with academic and credit gaps, including those who have struggled on state assessments, experienced behavioral challenges, or are re-engaging after time away from school. We also serve students in group homes or state custody, as well as others who may feel disconnected from traditional education systems.
Through a personalized, relationship-driven approach, DMA provides targeted instruction, flexible pathways to graduation, and the support students need to succeed. Our experienced team specializes in working with this population, helping students build confidence, earn credits, and move toward a meaningful future.
At Desert Mountain Academy, we believe every student has strengths—and every student can succeed.
Our model blends academic rigor with a strong focus on social and interpersonal development, ensuring students are prepared not only for graduation, but for life beyond high school. We take a whole-child approach, integrating academics with social-emotional support to help students grow as learners and individuals.
Our program is built on three core principles:
Students at DMA learn in a structured, supportive setting that includes access to counseling, social work services, athletics, and hands-on learning opportunities. This comprehensive model is designed to re-engage students, accelerate progress, and prepare them for success in school, career, and community.
Desert Mountain Academy offers year-round enrollment to meet students when they’re ready to begin.
Students who submit a complete application may enroll immediately, with up to 30 days to provide required documentation (such as proof of birth and residency).
If applications exceed available space, enrollment will be determined through an equitable lottery process. Additional applicants will be placed on a waitlist in the order drawn.
All public notices of Charter Board meetings will be posted here and on the main lobby door at 4301 West Fillmore Street, Phoenix, AZ 85043. Meetings will not be held without at least 24 hours’ notice to both members of the public body and the general public.
